The Haldex Traction AB corporation is engaged in the production and implementation of Haldex all-wheel drive couplings. Through the constant modernization of its products, the company improves the performance of its products with each new generation. Currently, Haldex is one of the leading suppliers of all-wheel drive clutches in the world.

The first generation appeared in 1998, and car models on which the system was tested were the Audi TT and the Volkswagen Golf.

The second generation was launched in 2002, it is an electronic four-wheel drive clutch in which power is distributed between the rear and front axles depending on wheel slip, most often more than 90% of the power is transmitted to the front. In the second generation, the power transfer is much more efficient, the system is activated in just 1/7 turn of any wheel. Electronic sensors can change the response characteristics of the system to better perform in a variety of conditions, from dry asphalt to loose gravel, mud, or icy snow.

The third generation appeared in 2006. The Land Rover Freelander 4x4 all-wheel drive system was developed in conjunction with Haldex, whose technology continuously changes the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels. This electronically controlled clutch, which engages at rest to reduce wheel slip when starting from a standstill, responds quickly to loss of traction, and disengages quickly without compromising stability control systems. The system is used exclusively on the Freelander 2, and activates the advanced high pressure boost pump as soon as the engine is started from standstill. It also reduces the time it takes to reach full torque once wheel spin is detected. The third generation is also used throughout the Volvo range from 2005 to 2009.

In 2007, the fourth generation was released. Saab showed the unique Haldex clutch system on its 9-3 Turbo-X. This system was abbreviated XWD (Cross-Wheel Drive), and provided improved traction, safer driving and better control. With this technology, the Saab 9-3 Turbo-X, with only 280 hp, can overcome skids faster than many high-performance sports cars, overtaking rival brands.

The fifth generation of Haldex couplings was released in 2012. This clutch has a new, simplified design that aims to be easier to integrate into the gearbox. The new clutch actuator uses a centrifugal bypass valve designed to accurately transfer power between the front and rear axles. Removed the battery, filter and solenoid valve. It also uses a standard electronic control unit.

Unfortunately, like any other system, the Haldex coupling is not perfect, and eventually breaks down and fails. In our store you can find high-quality repair kits for all generations of Haldex coupling pumps, as well as individual components, such as: electric motor commutators, copper-graphite brushes, bearings, oil seals, o-rings.
